Brasov is visited by visually impaired people from Gorj

June 11, 2006, Brasov

In the spirit of good cooperation between the branches of the Romanian Association of the Blind, on June 11, 2006 the Brasov Association of the Blind had the pleasure to receive the visit of 60 members from Gorj branch. The visitors were on a national tour which included Brasov city.

Even if the initial plans included a meeting between the members of the two branches, the visit had to be shortened due to the visitors’ tight schedule. They were already on their way home and they had to cover over 300 kilometers more until their destination. As a result the visit was limited to a quick sightseeing in the city's historical center.

Brasov was visited by 60 members of the Blind Association from Gorj county

The group of visually impaired people from Targu Jiu visited in an hour several historical monuments around the old city center. Their tour was guided by the president of Brasov branch, with the help of a couple volunteers. The tour started with Ecaterina’s Gate, the “Andrei Saguna” High School and the Schei Gate.

After a few minutes spent at each location the group reached Strada Sforii (String Street), the narrowest street of the city, a quality which could be observed even by the totally blind visitors just by extending their arms. After this unique experience the group visited the Weavers’ Tower.

The visitors also made short stops at the club and head office of the Brasov Association of the Blind, both located nearby, on Castelului (Castle) Street. Unfortunately, the guests limited time didn’t allowed them to try the services of the first internet café for visually impaired people, located in the association’s head office building.

While returning to their buses for departure, the group from Targu Jiu had the opportunity to take a look at the Old City Hall, to stand on the place where the stage of the prestigious “Golden Stag” festival is built every year and to see the Black Church, unfortunately only on the outside as it was closed on the visit’s day.

At the end of the tour Mrs. Victoria Saioc, president of Gorj branch, expressed the gratitude of the visitors for the hospitality of the representatives of Brasov branch and invited the visually impaired people from Brasov to return the visit. “I consider such actions to be helpful as they contribute to meetings between visually impaired people from different areas of the country and to the socialization of visually impaired people, which is a very necessary thing” stated Mr. Virgil Lazar, President of the Brasov Association of the Blind, after the visit.
